Ms. Patricia Connor, Principal

Our mission at the H. Russell Swift School is to celebrate the individuality of every student so that they may reach their fullest potential.

To afford all of our students the opportunity to achieve academic success, we provide a curriculum that is aligned with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards in a collaborative manner through the use of innovative teaching strategies such as differentiated instruction. Additionally, through the creation of Professional Learning Communities, Swift School is experiencing a shift in the educational paradigm from a focus on teaching to a focus on learning. By focusing on learning, teachers are able to obtain student performance data, which enables the teachers to more accurately, align the rigor of instruction to individual student strengths and weaknesses. Though Math and Language Arts encompass the majority of our students’ academic day, we also introduce the disciplines of Science, Social Studies, and Health in grades one through three. Also, in an effort to educate the “whole” child, we provide a full schedule of related arts classes that include art, music, physical education, computers, and library. Our vision is to prepare our students with the knowledge base and love of learning necessary to realize their individual dreams as they pursue their interests and become lifelong learners.

While academics are an important function of school, it is only part of our students’ educational day. How children feel about school is arguably as important as the academic program. This is why our devoted staff works equally hard at creating a safe environment where our students are not afraid to take risks and make mistakes. With this in mind, we feel that an important component of creating this climate is to have the parents and guardians of our students be a part of our educational community. Therefore, we invite and strongly encourage you to join us at our functions throughout the year because by making your child’s school an important part of your life, you will make school an important part of theirs.
